Obituary
“We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”
2 Corinthians 5:8
Mr. Howard Wilson was born on December 18, 1938, in Colleton County, South Carolina, to the late Jeremiah and Ada Wilson. He was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on October 17, 2025.
At an early age, Howard began his education at Piney Grove Elementary School and later graduated from Colleton High School. Following his graduation, he relocated to New York City, where he was employed by Krasdale Foods for many years. Upon retiring, he moved to Fairmont, North Carolina, and eventually returned to his beloved home state of South Carolina.
During his time in North Carolina, Howard attended Fairmont First Baptist Church. Upon his return to South Carolina, he became a faithful member of Holy Temple Church in Walterboro. Howard had a deep love for the Lord and a sincere desire to grow in his faith. He was a dedicated churchgoer and rarely missed Bible study on Wednesday nights - even when he wasn't feeling well.
Howard was known for his impeccable style. He took great pride in his appearance and would not leave home unless his clothes were neatly pressed and perfectly coordinated. His sense of fashion was just one of the many ways he expressed his dignity and character.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his sister Verna Bartley; brothers Jerry Wilson and James Wilson; and three sons: Eric Wilson, Joel Walker, and Darrell Walker.
Howard leaves to cherish his memory: his daughters Sheryl Middleton and Paula Alford, sons Glen Walker, Terry Alford and Alonzo Alford. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He is mourned by four devoted sisters: Martha Ann Harrison (James), Geraldine Neely (Carl) of South Carolina, Annie Ruth Grant (Arthur) of Georgia, and Sharon Wilson of New York; two caring brothers: Andrew Howard (Judy) of Connecticut and Marion Wilson (Marian) of Boston; and one sister-in-law, Bertha Wilson of Florida. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
