Herbert L. Crawford, the son of the late Purvis Crawford and Burnie L. Green Smalls was born on December 17, 1935, in the rural area of Colleton County. He departed this life on Saturday, November 25, 2023.
He attended the public schools in Colleton County. He graduated from Colleton High School. Herbert worked at Westvaco Paper Mill at an early age. The name of the company was changed to Meade Westvaco. He decided to give working up in the year 2000. His words were, “I retired not to work.” He joined Macedonia United Methodist Church at an early age. He was an active member until his health failed him.
He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Kim Lewis Crawford in September of 1986. No children were born to this union. He enjoyed spending time with his daughter (Joyce Crawford Glover). They spoke with each other daily, sometimes more. He enjoyed teasing his Son-in-law (Kenneth Glover). He loved and talked about his great grands all the time. He liked to joke and laugh with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Purvis Crawford, and Burnie L. Green Smalls. He is also preceded in death by siblings; Exell Crawford, Clarence Crawford, James A. Crawford and Mary Emma Harshaw; grandson, Desmond A Bedford; stepson, Troy Lewis and all of his aunts and uncles.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of the home, Kim L. Crawford; daughter, Joyce (Kenneth) Glover of Ridgeville, SC; two great-granddaughters, Aamira S. Bedford of Charlotte, NC, and Aaliyah N. Bedford of Summerville, SC; Sisters-in-law, Cathy Wilson, Jackie Wilson, Robin Wilson, and Tina Wilson of Augusta, GA and Jackie Russell of Walterboro, SC and brothers-in-law, George Wilson, Terry Wilson of Augusta, GA and Glen Wilson of Maryland; a special nephew, Dwayne (Mona) Crawford of North Carolina; a friend, like a brother, Nathaniel Bligen; co-worker friends, Frank Rollins and Clay Simmons and a host of family and friends.
