Helen Marie Wilson was born as the beloved daughter of Abraham Wilson and Rosa Lee Smalls on the 7th day of December 1946 in Jonesville Community of Yemassee, South Carolina.
She received her education through the public-school systems of Colleton County. Beginning adult life, she moved to Charleston, SC, where she resided in George Legree for a few years before returning to her hometown. Baptized under the leadership of Rev. Mannie C. Chisolm, at an early age, she began her journey with God and became a loyal and faithful usher at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church until her health began to decline.
She then went to work on Hilton Head Island at Harbour Town Yacht Club in which she retired after 23 years of hard work and dedication. Of course, she didn’t stop at retirement. Parris Island Marine Corps of Beaufort, South Carolina had the pleasure of working with such sweet spirit for four years before she completely retired.
Affectionately called “Nana” or “Grandma” because of her loving and caring ways. She adopted her grandchildren friends fast! Always willing to feed you, braid your hair, and wasn’t afraid to let you know about God or how she’ll come behind her family if you don’t treat them right! She’s also known for her very affectionate smile, humbleness, dedication and hard work in which she’ll be remembered by. Her legacy is sure to live on by those surviving her.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by a grandson, Darrell Lamont Wilson; a nephew Morrow Wilson; son-in-law, Carl Payton; two sisters-in-law, Eva Mae Wilson and Lois Wilson; a brother-in-law, Richard Williams, along with numerous aunts and uncles.
Left on this side to cherish her memories, four children, Jessie (Dale) Wilson, Martha Payton, Lisa (Cephus) Terry and Robert Wilson; two sisters, Deloris (Sherman) Scriven and Jessie Williams; four brothers, Robert (Daisy) Wilson, Abraham Wilson, Jr., Ernest Wilson and Ben Garrett and eleven grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and caring friends.
She also leaves three special friends, Mrs. Annabell Williams, Adline Sharpe and Ms. Jane Schmitt.
