Gladys Manigo Davis of Walterboro, SC was born on October 25, 1950, in Neyles, SC to the union of Ollie and Amanda Manigo. She departed this earthly realm on March 18, 2025, peacefully at home surrounded by family, at the age of 74.
Gladys accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of Aimwell Presbyterian Church as a youth and young adult. She also served at St John Baptist Church and at the time of her death she was a devoted member of Aimwell Presbyterian Church of Neyles, SC. Gladys attended Colleton County Public Schools as a youth and graduated from Colleton County High School with the Class of 1968. She went on to attend Barber-Scotia College in Concord, NC. It is here that she formed a lifelong friendship with three great women: Alice Brewington, JoAlice Cromer, and Ruby Houston. She graduated from Barber-Scotia College Class of 1972.
Soon after graduating, she returned to Walterboro, SC where she and the love of her life,
Howard W. Davis Sr were united in holy matrimony on August 26, 1972. To this union five
children were born: Christie, Boobie, Amanda, Brent, and Brittany. She is preceded in death by
her son Brent D. Davis and her husband of over 50 years, Howard W. Davis Sr.
She loved to cook and spend time with her family. She also loved tend to her flowers, plants,
and chickens. She was a valued member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and
was a founding member of the local Walterboro Chapter.
She leaves behind to cherish her unconditional love and memories her children: Christie U.
Davis, Howard W. Davis II aka Boobie (Tiffany), Amanda L. Davis (Maurice), and Brittany D.
Davis (Desmond), all of Walterboro SC; six grandchildren: Ashley Kirkland, Deja G. Davis,
Jasmine M. Davis, Jada L. Davis, Ethan S. Walker, and Bri’Ohyna Nixson, as well as 2 great-
grandchildren Aniya and Royalty.
She also leaves behind to cherish a lifetime of memories her siblings: Arlene Finney-El of
Charlotte, NC; Betty Jerideau (Harvey) of Walterboro, SC; Lorene Butler of Neyles, SC;
Louvenis Manigo of Columbia, SC; Rita Nix (Joe) of Spartanburg, SC; Ollie Manigo Jr of
Walterboro, SC; and William L. Manigo (Adrienne) of Fayetteville, NC.
She will be dearly missed by a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, extended
family, friends, former students, and community members.
To know Gladys was to love her and it was well known that if she could do anything to help you
she would.
