Evelyn Pope Obituary

Evelyn Mabel Pope was born on November 2, 1947, in Colleton County, South Carolina, to the late Emma Williams Pope and Mike Pope.  She was educated in the Colleton County School District, where she built the foundation of her strength, determination, compassion, qualities that would guide her throughout her life.

She was a devoted member of St. James Baptist Church and was baptize from a young age where she was the Church Secretary for many years until the church closing.

She was preceded in death by two of her beloved daughters, Cynthia Pope and Carolyn Pope-Pencile; two son-in-law, Terry Siders and Allen Pencile; two brothers, Leroy Pope and Joseph Pope; younger sister, Louise Pope Hampleton and granddaughter, Jaunita Hayes, whom she now joins in eternal rest.

Evelyn was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother who dedicated her life to her family.  She was the proud mother of Sarah Pope-Maine (Arnold), Emma Pope-Way (Izell), Juanita Pope, Shanta Brown and Audrey Pryor-Felder (Carl); adopted son, Kevin Williams and sister of Delores Matthews (George).

Evelyn was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren each of whom brought her endless pride and joy.  She loved her family deeply and was the heart of every gathering-always offering words of wisdom, laughter, and unconditional love.  Her home was a place of comfort, filled with warmth, kindness and the delicious smell of her cooking that made everyone feel welcome.

Throughout her life, Evelyn gentle spirit and caring nature touched the lives of many.  She believed in helping others, listening and finding joy in everyday moments.  She shared a special and cherished friendship with Mr. Albert White, whose companionship brought her happiness and laughter in her later years.

Evelyn’s legacy of love, strength and faith will live on through her family and all who were blessed to know her.  Though she is gone from our sight, she will forever remain in our hearts – a shining example of what it means to love without limits.

Her life will be celebrated on November 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.  Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life so beautifully lived and a woman so deeply loved.
