Life Reflection
If when you give the best of your service, telling the world that the Savior has come, be not dismayed when men don’t believe you, He’ll understand and say well done.
Mrs. Ethel Mae Brown, affectionally known as “Grammy” was born in Colleton County on February 8, 1937, to the late William A. & Estella B. Holmes. She was raised in the Jacksonboro Community and attended the public schools of Colleton County. Ethel Mae accepted Christ in her life at an early age and joined Bethel AME Church, Jacksonboro where she served in many capacities. She was united in Holy Matrimony to David Lee Brown.
Ethel Mae was the happiest and most loving woman ever. She had many past times, but taking care of all the kids was by far the best task that she has done! Ethel Mae had many professions; she enjoyed being a Nanny and she worked at The Medical University of South Carolina in the Dietary Department. Ethel Mae gave of herself to everyone and never looked for anything in return. If there was any piece of a song that could describe her life it will be “Put your shoulders to the wheel and do your duty with a heart full of love!” In everything that she did for anyone, it was surrounded with love. They say laughter is essential to the soul, and we should find peace knowing that her soul is happy because there was never a time that she wasn’t laughing! When she wasn’t sitting on the porch watching the Brown Hill kids, she was glued to the television watching everything on channel 5, from the News, Let’s Make a Deal, The Price is Right, Young and The Restless, In the Heat of The Night, The First 48 and the list goes on! Ethel Mae has touched the lives of many people far and near and her soul will forever be etched in their hearts.
Ethel Mae was proceeded in death by her husband David L. Brown; her daughter Audrey Brown-Horry, her parents William A. & Estella B. Holmes; her siblings – Elizabeth Beasley, Eliza Maxwell, Eva Frasier, Rose Ella Simmons, Robert Holmes, Wesley Holmes, Vernon Holmes, and Henry Holmes, and a host of in-laws.
Ethel Mae leaves to cherish her sweet memories: Children – Elsye Bryant, Joseph Holmes (Deborah), Kenneth Holmes, Miriam Brown; Bradford Brown; Stadford Brown; Jimmie-Lee Brown (Shanetha), Francie Brown (Dwayne) & Tyrone Brown (Wanda); a special grandson – David Lamar Brown; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
