Deacon Robert Johnson Obituary

Mr. Robert Johnson, son of the late, Paul and Earline Johnson, was born on July 30, 1942, in Charleston, South Carolina.  Robert received his formal education in the public-school systems of Charleston County, and attended Bonds Wilson High School, during his early teenage years.  At the age of eighteen, he became a truck driver and would drive long distance runs throughout his entire career; until his retirement in the late 1980’s.

A man of love, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Mrs. Clara Mae Jones for over eighteen years, and this union would be blessed with four wonderful children.  He would then be joined in Holy Matrimony to Mrs. Sarah Burgess and this union would be blessed with a new bonus family and twenty-five years of marital bliss until his passing.

Affectionately known as “Bobby”, he was a true man of love and life.  His favorite past time was fishing and watching the old westerns on television.  Everyone the knew him, knew that he was the “Unofficial” comedian for the family.  His sense of humor was like no other and kept him going, even in and through his sickness.

During the morning hours of Wednesday: May 31, 2023, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend traded his time on earth for an eternity with his Heavenly Father.  Preceding him in death along with his parents is one son, Dexter Johnson: stepmother, Ophelia Johnson: siblings, Larry Johnson, James Johnson, Ronald Johnson, Van Johnson, Carolyn Johnson, Paul Johnson, Jr., Shirley Pendergrass, Roosevelt Pendergrass, Tommy Fields, Robert Fields, and Janica Gadson.
