Deacon Leroy Stevens was born September 18, 1938, to (the late) Kelly Stevens and Sallie Robinson Stevens of Hendersonville, South Carolina. Leroy received his education in the Colleton County, South Carolina School District. Upon graduation he migrated to New York where he married his high school sweetheart, Margrene Hugine also of South Carolina. They were married sixty-two years and from their union, two children were born: Kenneth and Brenda.
Leroy served two years in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. Upon completion of military service, he worked at and retired from New York City Transit Authority. Leroy joined Glover Memorial Baptist Church under the pastorate of the Rev. Dr. Lynwood P. Taylor serving as a Deacon, Trustee, Usher, Choir Member and Sunday School Teacher.
On Saturday, July 30, 2022, Deacon Leroy Stevens became absent from the body and present with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings: Nathan, John, Kalip, Virtere and Shirley.
Leroy leaves to cherish in their hearts his wife Margrene Stevens of Brooklyn, New York; one son Kenneth Stevens of Brooklyn, New York; one daughter Brenda Stevens of Delmar, Maryland; one sister Dorothy Stevens- Legette of Coco Beach, Florida; four grandchildren; Terrence Sr. (and his wife Kandi) of Greensboro, North Carolina, Tanisha Battle of Forest, Virginia, Terrell Stevens of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Tamara Hoy of San Antonio, Texas; four great grandchildren: Terrence Jr. of Greensboro, North Carolina, Terrence Joesph of Forest, Virginia, Jordan Green of San Antonio, Texas and Tristan Stevens of Greensboro, North Carolina; Sisters in law Mahalia Wilson of Delray Beach, FL, Shirley McCoy of High Point, North Carolina and Viola Stevens of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, church member and friends
