It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Coleman “Mickey” Sams, age 48, of Islandton, South Carolina on September10, 2025. Born in Hutchinson, Kansas on November19, 1976, to the late Ruth Marie Risher and Edgar Olen Sams.
Mickey was a man of immense kindness and compassion with a unique sense of humor. He made it his mission to make others laugh and smile. Mickey loved hunting, fishing, grilling, and spending time making memories with his family and friends.
Mickey was a loving and devoted husband to the love of his life, his queen, Nichole, for 16 years. He was a very proud father to his children. Mickey loved spending time with his family, teaching his children skills and instilling wisdom, love, and obedience to God.
Mickey was a beloved soul who touched many lives with his warmth, creativity, curiosity, humor and outgoing nature. He possessed a brilliant mind, disarming wit, and an empathetic heart. Mickey had a gift with words and wisdom. Even in death, he was able to provide the “gift of sight”, through organ donation.
Mickey attended Walterboro High, Class of 1995. He had a few career choices in his life but the proudest was his partnership with his son, Olen, at Wobble Lawncare.
Mickey loved Jesus. Every day he was thankful for his beautiful life and had faith that one day he would have everlasting life with the Lord and all the loved ones he lost along the way.
Mickey was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Cynthia Padgett; a nephew, Josh Blake; sister-in-law, Brittany Peeples and stepdad, Bobbie “Pop” Risher.
He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine Nichole Peeples Sams; his children, Coleman Sams, II, Dakota Diaz, Patrick Devlin-Hamilton, Olen Sams, and Calista Sams; sisters, Melanie Blake (Lonnie), Tania Peeples (Howard); brother, Glenn Pruitt (Connie); stepmom, Teresa Sams; mother-in-law, Jeannie Peeples; sisters-in-law, Brandy Mathis (Jerry) and Jessica Peeples; his chosen brothers, Trick Boatwright, PJ Oherien (Courtney), Chris Bliss, Billy Head, Daniel Mock, Timothy Brown (Kristie) and Troy Lesky and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of close friends he considered family. All who will forever cherish his memory.
