“Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning. For in You I do trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You.”
Psalm 143:8
Evangelist Clara Agnes Breland Hodges, affectionately known as “Miss Clara,” was born on August 14, 1961, in Smoaks, South Carolina. She was the cherished daughter of the late Mr. John Breland and Mrs. Willie Mae Hall. On January 3, 2026, God gently whispered her name and welcomed her home.
Evangelist Clara received her early education at Bethel Elementary and Ruffin Middle School, later graduating from Ruffin High School in 1981. Throughout her life, she worked faithfully and diligently in many roles—on Hilton Head Island as a housekeeper, in the sawmill, at Polk’s Restaurant, the Board of Disability, as an in‑home CNA, and at BEE City. No matter the job, she carried herself with grace, strength, and purpose.
Known for her beauty, impeccable fashion, and unmistakable presence, Evangelist Clara had a style that turned heads and a voice that lifted spirits. She spoke truth with conviction, offered encouragement with sincerity, and carried herself with confidence rooted in her faith. Beneath her firm and humorous personality was a woman of deep compassion, resilience, and unwavering strength.
Evangelist Clara loved the Lord and worked tirelessly in serving with her whole heart and soul. Evangelist Clara's faith was anchored in her love for God and worked as a dedicated servant in many capacities in local community churches as a secretary, on the finance committee, community outreach, hospitality committee, singing in the choir, and as a spiritual mentor.
At an early age, Evangelist Clara joined Sand Hill Baptist Church and later joined Praise Tabernacle.
Evangelist Clara loved reading her Bible, talking about the Lord, cooking delicious meals, and shopping—often blessing others with her generosity. She embodied “Agape” love, extending kindness to family, friends, extended family, and the entire community.
On June 1, 1991, she married Johnny Hodges. Together they raised two sons, Roger “Tyrone” Seabrook and Devin Seabrook, and later embraced the joy of a grandson, Tahje Seabrook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters.
Though Evangelist Clara Agnes Breland Hodges is no longer with us in body, her spirit continues to live on in every life she touched. Her legacy of faith, love, truth, and service will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories is her husband, Johhny Hodges, of 34 years; her sons, Roger “Tyrone” Seabrook and Devin Seabrook; her loving daughter, Aisha Stringer Wiggins (Victor); her loving grandchildren, Tahje Seabrook, Khama Wiggins, Khamren Wiggins, and Kamara Wiggins.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories a host of loving siblings, Betsie Breland, Barbara Breland Jones, Mary Breland Larimer (Jeff) of Kentucky, Herman Breland of Atlanta, Joe Willie Breland (Doris), and Melvin Breland (Tammy) and Special Cousin, Crystal Hodges Brown along with a host of nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great-nephews, cousins, friends, and church family.
