Mr. Benoris Ferguson, the son of the late Mr. John Ferguson and the late Ms. Carrie Williams Ferguson was born on November 20, 1940, in Red Springs, North Carolina. He passed away on December 7, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family.
He is preceded by in death by his brothers, Rev. Sylvester Chambers, David Ferguson, John Ferguson, Jr. and James Walter Ferguson; sisters, Béatrice Purnell, Carrie Leggett and Eva Mae Lee and son, Leon Cockrum, Jr son.
Benoris was employed with Adzent Daycare Center of Brooklyn, New York for Twenty-Five years until his retirement in 2009. Benoris enjoyed fishing and the simple pleasure of being on a pier or boat with his lure in the water waiting for the fish to bite.
He is survived by his loving wife, Etta Cockrum of Walterboro, South Carolina; son, James Johnson of Red Springs; daughters, Shaletha and Sharon Cockrum of Walterboro; grandsons, Laz and Brandon; sisters, Maggie Frierson and Hazel Rutledge of Atlanta, Georgia; sister –in-law, Geraldine Chambers of Baltimore, Maryland and special nephews and nieces.
Benoris’s legacy is one of love, faith, and joy for family and friends. He will be remember for the strength, kindness, and the positive impact he had on everyone fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace, and may his memory continue to bring comfort and inspiration to those who loved him.
