Anthony Tony Gant, affectionately known as “Sarge,” but to his grandchildren “Buddy,” was born on February 12, 1958, to the late Ben and Jannie Bell Glover Gant. He was one of seven children. On the afternoon of October 7, 2025, God sent an angel for Anthony to begin eternal rest in his heavenly home.
Anthony was educated in the Colleton County School System. After graduation he served nine years in the United States Army and was honorably discharged as a sergeant. Anthony held many jobs after his military career. His latest job was at the Veterans’ Victory House in Walterboro, South Carolina. He devoted a lot of his time enjoying his favorite pastime, fishing.
Anthony was preceded in death by his parents Ben and Jannie Gant, siblings Ernestine Gant and Sharon Gant Blocker; nephews Charlie Blocker, Jr. and Bennie Jenkins, and his best friend Ralph Bellamy Smalls. He leaves to cherish his sweet memories two sons, Tony (Rochelle) Gant of Houston, Texas; Deangelo Gant of Jacksonboro, South Carolina; and one daughter Tawanna Brown of Jacksonboro, South Carolina; siblings Deloris Smalls (Samuel) Johns Island, South Carolina; Hazel Mixon (James) of Ruffin, South Carolina; Verdell Gant of Jacksonboro, South Carolina; and Bennie Gant of Jacksonboro, South Carolina; one niece, Shawn Blocker; three nephews, Sylvester Smalls, Bayete Foster, and Terry Gant; seven grandchildren; his significant other Miriam Brown, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
