FOREVER LOVED, FOREVER REMEMBERED
Annette Gethers was born on August 6, 1953, in White Hall, South Carolina, to the late Oscar Wright, Sr. and Geneva Wright. She received her formal education in the Colleton County School District and graduated from Walterboro High School in 1972. Later that same year, Annette was joined in holy matrimony to Richard Lee Gethers, Sr. From this loving union, four children were born. Annette entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Wright, Sr. and Geneva Wright; her sisters, Mamie Green and Albertha Gilmer; and her brothers, Oscar Wright, Jr., Nathaniel Wright, Sr., and Bennie Wright, Sr.
Annette’s faith guided her throughout her life. For many years, she was a dedicated member of Cumberland United Methodist Church in Ritter, South Carolina, and later joined Heavenly Baptist Church in Green Pond. She enjoyed the sermons and took special delight in the choir, often clapping along to the songs that lifted her spirit.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Annette found her greatest joy in the company of her family. She loved relaxing with her favorite shows on the cooking and discovery channels, especially Life Below Zero, Delicious Ms. Brown, and The Kitchen as well as various reality television shows. She enjoyed fishing and trying new dishes at good restaurants, but nothing compared to the meals she lovingly prepared at home. Her sweet potato pie was a family favorite, and her Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners were cherished traditions, each one prepared with love and care. She also enjoyed tending her garden and cooking the vegetables she grew.
Annette was a hardworking and devoted woman who spent her career caring for others. She was employed by the Holiday Inn in Walterboro, South Carolina, and later by the Coastal Center in Summerville, South Carolina. Her compassion, strong work ethic, and genuine kindness touched everyone she encountered.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her devoted husband, Richard Lee Gethers, Sr.; her loving children, Taquan “Jamel” Gethers, Derrick Gethers (Lawaina), Dwight Gethers Sr. (Shannon), and Valarie Fennell (Herbert); and her beloved grandchildren, Anthony Gethers, Daquan Gethers, Jayden Gethers, Dwight Gethers, Jr., Javon Gethers, Destinee Fennell, Iyana Gethers, and Austin Fennell, all of whom brought great joy to her life.
She is also survived by her brothers, Anthony Wright Sr. and Jervie Wright Sr. (Lucille); sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Jackson, Queen Esther Ellison (Edward), and Sylvia Robinson (James); brothers-in-law, Alfonso Gethers (Joyce) and Curtis Lee Gethers; her goddaughter, Nicole Wright; her best friend, Lena White, her beloved dog, JoJo; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Annette will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
