Anderson Huggins

Mr. Anderson Huggins, known as “Hearley” by his family and friends, was born on December 1, 1945, in the White Hall community of Yemassee, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Haskell and Isabella Simmons Huggins. On Saturday, July 25, 2026, Anderson entered into eternal rest at his residence in White Hall.

Anderson lived a full life marked by faith, family, and dedication. He received his education in the public schools of Colleton County. He accepted Christ at an early age and loved reading the Scriptures. Anderson joined Ebenezer Christian Methodist Episcopal Church under the leadership of the late Reverend I. Brown. There, he was active on the missionary board and in the senior choir.

Family meant everything to Anderson. In the summer of 1970, he was joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Eva Ruth Rhodes. Their union was blessed with three children: Stacy, Aretha, and Anderson II.

Anderson was a brick mason for over sixty years. He was a member of the Southeast International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers for over 50 years. He worked in several states, including Georgia, New York, and South Carolina. Anderson took great pride in each job he completed. He was respected by those he worked with for his commitment, mastery, and work ethic.

Anderson was also well-known for his love of the outdoors, gardening, and farming. Even at the youthful age of 80, he spent countless hours each day tending to his fields and supplying fresh produce to the community. He was committed, hardworking, and honest until the end.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Haskell, Herman, Marion, Bobby, and Lawrence Huggins; sisters, Elizabeth Huggins Priest and Eleanor Huggins; and son-in-law, Thomas Bell, Jr.

Those who remain to carry on his legacy are: his loving and devoted wife of over fifty-five years, Eva R. Huggins of White Hall, SC, three children, Stacy Huggins Bell of Manning, SC, Aretha Huggins of White Hall, SC, and Anderson (Kimberli) Huggins II of Fayetteville, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Jabril, Imani, Quadri, and Staclyn Bell, all of Manning, SC, Anderson Huggins, III of San Angelo, TX, Adyson and Kimara Huggins of Fayetteville, North Carolina; one great-grandson, Jamarion Bell of Manning, SC; one brother, Jake (Patricia) Huggins of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Nancy Nelson of Brooklyn, New York and E. Deloris (Leonard) Mack of Ritter, SC; two nieces reared as sisters, Theresa Dianne (Haskell) Magwood of White Hall, SC, and Shirley Singleton of Charleston, SC; one nephew reared as a brother, David L. Huggins of Savannah, GA; sisters-in-law, Barbara A. Huggins, Patsey R. Jiles, Jane R. Washington, Mary Murray, and Sandra B. Rhodes; brothers-in-law, Nehemiah Rhodes, James Kinsey, and Linwood Williams, Sr.; one aunt, Rosanna Huggins Vega; special family friend, Mary Givens along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
