Obituary
Queen Elizabeth Lewis was born on April 24, 1946. She departed this life on December 23, 2018, in Tampa, Florida. She was the daughter of William and the late Ida Deloris Lewis of Cottageville, South Carolina. Queen was educated in the public schools of Colleton County. She became a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Round O, South Carolina, at a young age. Later she moved to Brooklyn, New York where she raised her two sons, William Kalvin Dukes and Charles Lorenzo Dukes. Queen was employed by Ackerman Nursery in Cottageville, South Carolina, after moving back home to South Carolina. She attended Nazarene Baptist Church where Reverend Mike Washington is the pastor and Church of the Holy Spirit with Pastor Vera Walker until her death. Three of Queen’s siblings preceded her in death, Betty Powell, James Charles Lewis, and Maryellen Lewis Zimmerman, along with her mother Ida Lewis.
Queen leaves to cherish her memories her father, William Lewis of Cottageville, South Carolina; two sons, William Kalvin Dukes (Jocelyn) of Morris Plains, New Jersey and Charles Lorenzo Dukes of Bronx, New York; three siblings, William Franklin Lewis (Lottie) of Allendale, South Carolina, Walter L. Lewis (Effie) of Plainfield, New Jersey, Vera A. Walker (James) of Tampa, Florida; and a very special adopted brother, Wendell Perry of Cottageville, South Carolina; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
