Mrs. Gwendolyn Cooper Washington affectionately known as “Gwen” daughter of the late Isaiah and Mary Cooper was born on July 9, 1959 in Brooklyn, NY. Ultimately, Gwen transitioned from mortality to immortality at Colleton Medical Center on January 3, 2019. Gwen attended school in Brooklyn, NY and completed her education in Berkley, SC. She had a passion for baking cakes, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles and reading books but most of all a passion for children. During her early life, Gwen accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was united in
fellowship with Mt. Zion Methodist Church of Jamestown, SC.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Isaiah and Mary Cooper, and three brothers, Robert Isiah Cooper, Chris Cooper, and Bernard Cooper. Left on this side to cherish her memories are husband, Sam Washington, of Charleston, SC; two sons, Leonard (Daisy) Cooper of Hinesville, GA; and Andre Washington of Baltimore, MD; stepdaughter, La’Recia Adams of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren, Diondrai, Dion Jr., Javion, Dimarion, and Da’Haven, two sisters, Elizabeth Glaze and Joanne Cooper both of Walterboro, SC; two brothers, Osbourne Cooper of
Walterboro, SC and Isiah “Butch” Cooper Jr. of VA; one sister-in-law, Kathrin Washington of SC; three brothers-in-law, Onaje (Debbie) Washington of GA; John Washington of TX; and Raymond Washington of SC; three aunts, Shirley (Amos) Ford, of Columbia, SC; Lillie Mae (James) Manigo of Yemassee, SC; and Bernice Simmons of Charlotte, NC; two uncles, Eddie (Luella) Williams of Walterboro, SC; and Joe Elliott of Brooklyn, NY; Godmother, Katherine Martin. along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
