Mr. Richard Yates, Sr. (U.S. Army-Vet.) Obituary

We respectfully honor the life of, Mr. Richard D. Yates, Sr. A WWII U.S. Army Veteran, Mr. Yates went home to be with the Lord on Saturday: October 26, 2019, at the Veteran's Victory House, Walterboro, SC. He was born Ruffin, South Carolina on March 14, 1921 to the late John Weldon & Anna Bunch (Jamison) Yates. As a youth he received his formal education in the public schools in the Walterboro area. Early in his life, he served as an altar boy at a Methodist church in Charleston, SC. He worked for several years at his father's business, Yates Paint & Body Shop in Charleston. Later in life he moved to New York and began working for the 34th Street Post Office Garage, until his retirement. He is an active member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He has also been a major contributor to Boys Town, NE since 1966.

He was united in Holy Matrimony first to Mrs. Alma O. Koger until her passing. He then was united in matrimony to Rosalee Gillard Yates, until her passing.  Also preceding him in death are: step-mother, Ethel SImmons Yates: sisters, Anidow Yates Barnhill (Mack) and Glossiree Yates Washington (George): brother, John Lee Yates (Thelma): one brother in law, William Guidry: and one niece, Anna Laura Barnhill (Gore).

Those left to cherish his memories are: daughter, Vivian Yates Loyd of Conneticut: three sons: Richard D. Yates, Jr. (Pamela) of Summerville, SC; Kenneth Yates, Sr. (Delores) of Walterboro, SC; and Vernon Yates, Sr. (Barbara) of Georgia: one sister, Ruth Lee Yates Guidry of California: niece, Christine Grant (Rufus) of South Carolina: nephews, Tony (Gwen), Edward (Elouise), and Kerry Yates (Alexis) all of Charleston, SC: thirteen grands, twenty-seven great-grands, and three great great-grandchildren, along with a host of numerous other relatives and friends.
